top Warped textures

These images are from my "warped texture" phase. These images all began with some kind of texture applied to a color gradient. I then used various Photoshop filters to manipulate the image.

[blue-green gushes] Gusher [187K]

My favorite of the warped texture series.

[a luminous kaleidoscope images] Aztecish Kaleidoscope [495K]

Another texture, this time warped with a kaliedoscope filter, Terrazzo from Xaos Tools.

[a flame in the form of a humumented Usenet post] A flame in the form of a humument image [182K]

A homophobic idiot (Keith E Jackson, kjackson@cs.tamu.edu), once posted a rant expressing how upset he was that his tax dollars paid for "fairy art". He was foolish enough to crosspost this rant to talk.bizarre. I responded by using his tax dollars to propagate my flame of him. I flamed by turning Jackson's post into a "humument" that exposes its subtext.

"Humument" images are in the mode of artist Tom Philips' treatment of a Victorian novel. He painted on the pages of the novel, leaving certain words uncovered. The uncovered words tell a new story. The original title of the novel was "A Human Document". Philips obscured all but the letters "a hum ument", hence the name of the technique. The form owes a lot to Burrough's cut-ups.

[Rainbow ripples] Ripply Marble [247K]

This makes a nice desktop background, once you drop the saturation. The jpeg came out a bit grainy. (I used xv to make it, and I don't think xv does a good job. I'll do it again with Photoshop real soon now.)

[grayscale geyser] Grayscale Geyser [178K]

At the request of Squire Rich, a warped texture that looks good in grayscale. I didn't do anything particularly interesting to make this.
