Statements are pretentious.
Oh, all right, I'll say more than that.
I have been taking photographs seriously for five months. That's not
very long. It's just barely long enough to have learned the basics of
how to expose film properly. I've also taken advantage of a friend's
darkroom, and learned how to develop film and print it. I've made a few
images I like. You can see those images here. Most of the time I just
waste film and try to learn from my mistakes.
I think that every successful artist has an obsession, some subject or
technique they return to over and over. For Masahisa Fukase, it's
ravens. For Richard Misrach, it's dead animals. I'm still searching for
my obsession as a photographer.
