I compose and record music in the comfort of my own home.
Sometimes it’s bad. Mostly it’s just okay. I don’t much care,
because just doing it makes me really happy.
Gearheads will want to check out my gear list.
Here are excerpts and a couple of full versions of pieces
I’ve recorded recently. You are welcome to download these
sample files to your personal computer and play them for your
own personal enjoyment. You can’t use them for anything else
without first obtaining my written permission. These pieces
are copyright 1995-2000, C J Silverio, with the exception of
Rainstorm, which is copyright 1994 C J Silverio, Narciso Jaramillo, and
Robert Reimann.

Nord Lead, Access Virus, and Novation Drumstation. The guitar sample is
from Alien
Guitars, a sampling CD full of strange guitar noises by composer
David Siskovic. The title is perhaps too literal-minded. My production
skills are improving, and I think you can hear it in this piece.

A Nord showcase: the Nord is responsible for the pulsing
slow voice at the very beginning, the phased pads, and the bleepy
bass. The other synth is the Matrix. All composition and mixing
by me, recording by Lance.

Here’s the first use I’ve made of my Nord Lead. I did everything
for this one except push the record button on the DAT. Lance did that.
The Nord is the jumpy bell voice. This piece also features the Bass Station,
some 808 percussion samples, and a marimba-ish voice from the Procussion
heavily altered with the Peavy analog filter set.
The title refers to the shorebird, not the engine of death.
Stereo MPEG-2 layer III file [4.1 MB]
I did all composition, sequencing, and sound design for
this piece. Lance did some mixing
and recording.

I decided to see what would happen if I tried re-recording this with
newer better tools. I have a digital audio midi sequencer now (Vision DSP),
and triggering the samples is a lot easier. I think the next step I could
take to improve a piece like this would be to get software to clean up
noise from crappy vinyl recordings.
